Here's What to Expect At Meetings
What is a La Leche League meeting?
A monthly gathering where a trained, accredited LLL Leader offers information on a breastfeeding-related topic and opens the floor for questions and discussion. Meetings are informal, and the conversation is shaped as much by what attendees want to talk about that day as by the planned topic. Expectant parents, brand-new parents, and experienced nursing parents all attend the same meetings.
Do I have to pay or become a member?
No. Meetings are completely free, and there's no membership requirement or sign-up commitment. You're welcome to come to one meeting, come every month, or drop in occasionally — whatever fits your family.
Who leads the meetings?
Meetings are facilitated by an accredited LLL Leader — a volunteer who has nursed their own baby and completed LLL's accreditation process to provide accurate, up-to-date breastfeeding information and peer support.
Can I come if I'm still pregnant?
Yes, and it's actually a great time to come. Meeting other nursing families before your baby arrives is one of the best ways to build a support network and get comfortable asking questions before you're in the thick of the newborn stage.
Can I bring my baby, toddler, or other children?

My baby takes a bottle, or I exclusively pump — can I still come?
Yes. LLL supports anyone providing human milk to their baby, whether that's nursing directly, pumping and bottle-feeding, or a combination, including donor milk. If you need to pump during the meeting and need a plug to do so, just ask — it's a completely normal request.
What if I show up late or need to leave early?
Come whenever you can. Everyone understands that showing up on time with a baby or small child in tow isn't always realistic, and Leaders never make a fuss about late arrivals or early departures.
Do I need to talk or share anything?
Not unless you want to. You're welcome to ask questions, share your own experience, or just sit and listen. Many parents come to their first meeting or two just to observe before they feel ready to jump into the conversation.
Is there a specific topic each month?
Groups typically rotate through a series of common breastfeeding topics — things like the early postpartum weeks, building and protecting milk supply, latch and comfort issues, returning to work or school, and starting solids. That said, whatever questions or concerns the parents in the room bring that day take priority over the planned topic.
Can my partner or another support person come with me?
Yes, partners and other support people are welcome. Having someone in your corner who understands what you're working through can make a real difference.
What if my nearest group meets too far away, or the timing doesn't work?
You're not limited to your closest group. If a local meeting time or location doesn't work for your family, you're welcome to check the Virtual Meetings page for an online option, or look into any of the other Oklahoma groups listed on this site. You can also reach out directly to a Leader by email to ask about alternatives.
Will anyone judge me for how I'm feeding my baby?
No. LLL Leaders are there to support the goals you have for feeding your own baby, not to push a single "right way" to do it. Whether you're exclusively nursing, combo feeding, exclusively pumping, or working through a rough patch and considering weaning, you'll be met with information and encouragement, not judgment.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and your baby, if yours has already arrived. Parents may choose to bring items that make feeding and childcare more comfortable for them, like a pillow or a baby carrier.
I can't make it to a meeting right now — can I still get help?
Yes. Leaders are also available by phone, email, or social media between meetings for one-on-one questions and support. Check your local Group's page on this site for contact information, another Group's page, or use LLL USA's Leader Locator to find a Leader near you.
